Shopping I ♥ !

February 28th, 2010

I’ve shopped from DealExtreme several times and never been disappointed. My ECO-server that runs on less than 10W has a power supply from their webshop and several small parts as well.

Now I’m thinking about trying out some of their LED light bulbs or solar panels. But the solar panels seem to small to me really any good so I’ll stick to the LEDs.

New additions to the green websites

December 7th, 2009

Okay, here goes. I’ve been working on some websites in my native language, Swedish. They are about LEDs, light emitting diodes and PV solar panels and can be found at:

Lysdioder.nu

Skaffasolcell.se

By this I’m hoping to wake interest and spread information about green ways to use technology.

Hopefully, If my studies work out, I’ll be moving in the autumn of 2010 and then be able to host those sites in my own solar panel powered servers. But that’s the future. Now it’s all about making the sites better and managing the studies.

The Volkswagen E-up! concept

November 20th, 2009

Woah! This would be the (almost) perfect car for me. It’s a electric battery powered mini-sized car that has a top speed of 135km/h (wich is higher than the speed-limit for our highways), a range of 130km and it’s good looking.

E-Up! Concept car, front.

It has some of the characteristics of the ultimate daily driver in my opinion.

1. It’s electric thus having low running costs and low environmental impact.

2. It’s small and should therefore be easy to drive, park and use in cities.

3. The interior can be used in many ways with it’s folding seats. This make it a three (I think it’s only one seat in the back) person car or a two person car with a good loading space or a one person car with a huge loading space (up to two meters is huge in a car thats just over three meters).

4. It has 1,4 square meters of solar panels on the roof. Described to run the air conditioning when parked in sunlight but I hope a combination of improved solar panel technology and VW engineering will make some addition in driving range…

Please VW. Read this:

1. Make it simple. We want a small, simple, cheap car for our daily trips. We don’t need 4-5 touchscreens with super-everything-control and variable-anything-settings.

2. Please don’t make it rust away! Where I live all cars tend to rust until they fall apart, at least the ones that isn’t owned by car enthusiasts. Build this car in aluminum, plastic and other modern materials and make rust a 20th century problem.

3. Optimize it! Build it with flat belly pans and run the car in a wind tunnel! Lower weight and drag increases range and top speed.

And I have the usual concerns regarding these concept EV’s.

1. The’re concepts, and if they make it to production that’s still about 5-10 years away.

2. The’re often very high tech, making them expensive.

3. People want to buy a cheap car, with a low price tag even if a more expensive alternative will have lower owning costs and a lower total life cycle cost.

New miniserver incoming & homemade Electric Bike

November 5th, 2009

New miniserver incoming

This isn’t really EV stuff but it’s a bit ECO-friendly. I’m building a mini server for some home use, based on the INTEL D945GSEJT AtomN270 mini-ITX motherboard which has a estimated power consumption as low as 20W with a ordinary hard drive. I’m going for a completely silent system with no moving parts, therefor the harddrive is switched out for a 16Gb CF card. More when the motherboard arrives!

Ps. a 60W power supply and the CF-to-SATA-adapter is on it’s way from china…

Homemade Electric Bike

A friend of mine told me he has something to show me, and later arrived on his…

Homemade electric bike! A really impressive build with it’s 1000W (yes three zeros) motor and regenerative braking. Currently powered with lead acid batteries but LiPO might be on the way in!

Check out his blog here and the bike here.

October 14th, 2009

To bad it had to be this way but I had my scooter to and from my girlfriends house and now that we’d brake up I no longer need the scooter. For sale!

The guzzler is dead!

September 28th, 2009
Being torn apart before going to the junk yard.

Being torn apart before going to the junk yard.

Yey! One more off the streets. Well partly. Good thing is that my EV Scooter did survive the charging mishap, but my car has died. So right now is the challenge to keep myself away from ICE-powered cars until i can buy an EV one. I’m working on some web pages, mostly in swedish to get some Adsense Income but until I’ve learnt the basics of “money making online” as some put it, I’ve just have to walk where I’m going. To bad when one has a girlfirend ouside the city. To far to walk. And now the winter has come = no scooter.

So from 2 vechicles to 0, zero, null in two weeks. I’m getting freaky here… Need.. a.. car…

Crap! The charger is killing my batteries!

September 3rd, 2009

Holy crap! The day before yesterday I left the charger on over night. Not a problem since the charger should cut down charging to tiny current charging when the batteries are full, but when i checked my scooter yesterday the charger was doing what it could to cook my batteries! Fuck no! The whole scooter was warm from the overcharged batteries and I fear the batteries has taken some damage. it’s now time to get four of those…

or

CTEK XS800 or XS3600. One of the best chargers available, the XS800 is good enought for the scooter but if i buy four XS3600 I can use them for EV Car conversions later… Only one problem with these chargers. They are about $83 or $111 a piece ($332/$444 for four). Firstly I currently have no income at all (studying), secondly I bought the scooter to be a cheap way of transportation.

And if the batteries have taken damage, I also need four of this.

Four 12v 12Ah or 12v 18Ah… and its another $250.

Donations anyone? Feels kinda crappy to have to do this since my economy is down right now.

Local library goes solar power

May 16th, 2009

Read a notice in the newspaper a while ago that my local library was going to install solar panels on their roof. No numbers was mentioned else than the calculated power generated in a year would be enough to power 5 villas just as long…

Panel showing power generated

Then I visited the library when I worked (furniture delivery) and saw this sign, displaying current generated watts, total kWh today and MWh since installation. When I took this image it was cloudy with a fine rain and they still generated over 8kW!

ECO Power, taxes spent well.

50 Things you’re not supposed to know

March 8th, 2009

I was surfing the web and stumbled upon this ebook, 50 things you’re not supposed to know and found number 21 funny or interesting. “Electric cars have been around since the 1880s“.  The article is more or less a historic summary of the electric cars in the 19th century, nothing that can’t be found on wikipedia. Why is that something the public shouldn’t know about? Personally I think the author never heard of electric cars and therefor assumed it must have been some kind of plot by the governmenmisct and cars companies…
